Delia Meyer is an actress with a BA Dramatic Arts degree from Wits University. She has extensive experience as a facilitator and trainer in Applied Theatre techniques. In 2010 she gained her Masters degree in Educational Theatre in Colleges and Communities from New York University having been awarded the Ford Foundation Fellowship. She specialises in Theatre of the Oppressed methodology and believes in it as a tool for change and whose ideology runs throughout her work. Her Master’s thesis project was the creation of a self- developed independent study in what she called Activated Spoken Word Poetry which centres on “Art out of Community”, “counter – narrative” and giving a mic’ and a stage to the marginalised unseen and unheard members of society. This module consists of the writing and performing of Spoken Word Poetry Theatre. In this form, she has facilitated and directed “Fire Seeds” (New York City); “Outspoken” (New Africa Theatre Academy students) and Desdemoya’s Voice (a project supported by the Ford Foundation Alumni Association). She has also run a two-month Emerging Artists Training.
She is currently working on an independent Hip Hop Theatre production; trains actors and non- actors in her speciality area of Improvisation and is writing a manuscript of poetry. She is proud to be a trainer and Conductor of performances for the Bonfire Theatre Company.
